In the Fall of 2008 I participated in a sponsored studio. Our sponsor was WATG, a large architecture firm located just south of LA. To begin this particular studio semester we traveled to LA to learn about our new site and project. We spent a week there roaming the streets of downtown alongside the homeless, brushing up on our knowledge of hospitality architecture, and boogie boarding in the Pacific Ocean. I have since spent some time there during every season (not that they are all that different) and have always enjoyed the balance and diversity the city offers. I have found in my time there that even though you may be moving slower through traffic than the senior citizen walking besides you while in the city, the ability that one has to find solitude and a connection to nature along the water’s edge makes being a citizen of Los Angeles all the more worth it.
