mountainside retreat

Southern Colorado Rocky Mountains

Fall 2007

Designed to house up to 4 fisherman seeking a get-a-way near the continental divide. The slope rises approximately 80 feet from the lowest to highest point of the dwelling. The design reacts to this steep slope by stepping downward and creating a circulation path that leads its visitors in a traversing motion to the stream below, much like one a hiker follows down a mountainside. The radial approach displayed within the design of the retreat was inspired by the presence of strong, residual views of the sky and landscape surrounding the area. Furthermore, each room within the overall residence was designed to provide its own personalized view as well as contribute to a sense of solitude for the visitors.
